Meet the Attorneys

Virgil Adams, Partner 

Virgil is a native of Macon, Georgia and a 1977 graduate of Albany State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. After graduating from Albany State, Virgil was admitted to the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University, where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in June of 1980.

Following his graduation, and upon admission to the State Bar of Georgia, Virgil became Assistant District Attorney for the Macon Judicial Circuit, where he was assigned to the Trial Division. While at the District Attorney's Office, Virgil handled and tried many serious, high-profile cases.

Upon leaving the District Attorney's Office at the end of 1987, Virgil entered private practice as a partner with the law firm of Mathis, Sands, Jordan & Adams. In 2010, the law firm became known as Adams & Jordan, P.C., and in 2013, attorney Caroline Herrington was made a partner, with the firm being renamed Adams, Jordan & Herrington, P.C. The law firm continues to maintain offices in Macon and Milledgeville. 
The law firm primarily engages in personal injury litigation, an area in which Virgil has successfully handled on behalf of victims’ cases involving serious injury and/or death resulting from negligence, medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, defective products and other catastrophic events. 

Virgil also serves as County Attorney for Bibb County.

  • In 2001, Virgil was recognized by the Macon Bar Association as Lawyer of the Year.
  • Martindale Hubbell, which ranks attorneys based upon their professional and ethical conduct, has awarded Virgil its highest designation, "AV." 
  • Virgil has been named a Super Lawyer for 2012, 2013 and one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers Association.  

Jimmy was born in Mobile, Alabama and grew up in Warner Robins, Georgia. Since 1984 he has lived and raised his family in his adopted home town of Milledgeville, Georgia. 
He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia in 1977 and earned his law degree, with honors, from Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law in 1981. 

While attending Mercer University, Jimmy was a member of the Law Review and served as editor of the Law Review's Georgia Survey issue. His law school honors include being inducted into the Brainerd Currie Honor Society, the Law School's premiere Honor Society.

Jimmy was admitted to practice in the State of Georgia in 1981.
Jimmy's areas of practice with the firm include representing the seriously injured and families of those that have died as a result of automobile collisions, tractor trailer collisions, medical malpractice and product liability. In addition, Jimmy serves as City Attorney for the City of Milledgeville and is Trust Counsel for Century Bank and Trust, Milledgeville, Georgia. Caroline W. Herrington, Partner 

Caroline is a native of Blakely, Georgia and now resides in Bleckley County with her husband, Judson, and their two children.

She graduated cum laude from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration in 2000. She then attended the Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law, where she was a member of the Mercer Law Review and Moot Court Board. She graduated with her Juris Doctorate in 2005.

Caroline joined Adams & Jordan in August 2005, and was named partner in 2013. Her practice is primarily focused on representing clients in serious personal injury and wrongful death actions, including medical malpractice actions, tractor-trailer collisions, automobile collisions, products liability actions, premise liability actions and other serious injury cases.

Dawn Maynor Lewis, Associate 

Dawn is a Buncombe County, North Carolina native and a 1996 summa cum laude graduate of the University of North Carolina-Asheville, where she earned the Ruth Feldman Outstanding Scholar Award and was a member of Phi Alpha Theta and the international history honor society. Dawn graduates with a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in history.

Dawn attended the University of Georgia School of Law, where she graduated, cum laude, in 2003. She was a member and executive notes editor for the Journal of Intellectual Property Law, and her research on music piracy and intellectual property issues was published in 10 JIPL 173 (2003).

During law school, Dawn utilized her past matriculation in music theory and analysis to freelance as a music journalist and music reviewer for Flagpole Magazine in Athens, Georgia.
Since becoming a member of the Georgia Bar in 2003, her practice areas have centered on all aspects of governmental affairs, with an emphasis on civil rights litigation, employment relations and litigation, procurement, real property and legislative matters.

In 2005, Dawn became the first female member of the Meriwether County Bar Association. Dawn associated with Adams & Jordan in 2009 and is now a member of the Macon Bar Association.

She remains interested in the music and entertainment business, and devotes time and pro bono service to animal legal and welfare organizations. Dawn and her husband share their home in Spalding County with their three children and two rescued Weimaraners.

George L. Phillips, M.D., Associate 

George grew up in Macon, Georgia and resides in Monroe County with his wife Marilyn Sutton.

He graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1973.

He received six years of post-graduate medical training and is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology.

His medical background included 20 years of service in the United States Army. After retirement as Colonel, Regular Army, he continued his medical career in the practice of gynecologic and surgical oncology, both in private practice and academic settings. He has published numerous articles in medical peer review journals. 
George graduated from the Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law in 2013.

George joined Adams, Jordan & Herrington in 2013. His practice is primarily focused on representing plaintiffs in medical malpractice actions.

Cedric B. Davis, of Counsel 

Cedric is an attorney who specializes in personal injury, wrongful death, professional negligence, product liability, workers' compensation, criminal and employment cases. In addition, Cedric is a certified agent with the National Football League Players Association.

Cedric was born in Milledgeville, Georgia. He attended Georgia Military Junior College (High School) and Baldwin High School where he graduated in 1984. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served honorably for four years. 

Cedric began his collegiate endeavors at East Carolina University while serving in the Marine Corps. Subsequently, Cedric attended Georgia College and State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science in 1993 and a Master Degree in Public Administration in 1997. 
Cedric received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in December 1996. He was admitted to practice law in the state of Georgia in February 1997.
