Virgil is a native of Macon, Georgia and a 1977 graduate of Albany State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. After graduating from Albany State, Virgil was admitted to the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University, where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in June of 1980.
Following his graduation, and upon admission to the State Bar of Georgia, Virgil became Assistant District Attorney for the Macon Judicial Circuit, where he was assigned to the Trial Division. While at the District Attorney's Office, Virgil handled and tried many serious, high-profile cases.
Upon leaving the District Attorney's Office at the end of 1987, Virgil entered private practice as a partner with the law firm of Mathis, Sands, Jordan & Adams. In 2010, the law firm became known as Adams & Jordan, P.C., and in 2013, attorney Caroline Herrington was made a partner, with the firm being renamed Adams, Jordan & Herrington, P.C. The law firm continues to maintain offices in Macon and Milledgeville.
